Based on the ‘community banking’ model made famous by Bendigo Bank – Bendigo Telco was conceived as a telco that would support the needs of the local community.”
A NEW LOCAL TELCO
The founding of Bendigo Telco was an initiative of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, supported by many other larger business from the Bendigo area. Our first product was simply ‘long distance’ calling and soon after that, dial-up internet.
IN THE BEGINNING
We forged close ties with Community Enterprises in our region including those from Strathfieldsaye, Eaglehawk and Huntly. Today Bendigo Telco is associated with more than twenty community enterprises spread right across Australia.
A FIRST FOR REGIONAL AUST
Construction of regional Australia’s first purpose-built data centre. This facility is at the heart of our cloud services and provides a true local alternative to capital-city based services.
THE NATIONAL GROUP WAS EST.
Community Telco Australia was formed – and Bendigo Telco became its original franchise partner. This was soon followed by many other ‘Community Telco’s’ across regional Australia.
LISTED ON THE STOCK EXCHANGE
Bendigo Telco was listed on the ‘Bendigo Stock Exchange’ - which would later be merged with the National Stock Exchange (NSX). We have a proud history of distributing dividends to our communities for over fifteen years.
OUR OWN FIBRE INFRASTRUCTURE
Investment in our own optical fibre infrastructure in the Bendigo CBD region. This allowed us to provide super high-speed data services to Bendigo businesses years before they would have otherwise been available.
METRO FIBRE RING
Delivery of a ‘Metropolitan Area Network’ (MAN) for Bendigo businesses – based on a core of our own fibre. This MAN fibre-ring enabled us to provide highly resilient data services at multi-gigabit speeds.
BENDIGO BANK DATA NETWORK
Implementation of a 500 site ‘MPLS’ data network that spans the whole of Australia for the fast-growing branch-network of the Bendigo Bank. This was later expanded to include around 1000 ATM’s.
Bendigo Telco again became an independent telco with wholesale partnerships in place with all the major underlying carriers including Telstra, AAPT and NBN Co.
Bendigo Telco purchased VicWest Community Telco and Community Telco Australia’s business customer’s.
Bendigo Telco acquired the last remaining customers of Community Telco Australia and is now a business with revenues in excess of $40M that employs more than 100 people across Australia.
